Onile Sestokas
Chair of LAAD
Physician, retired.
As a child and grandchild of immigrants who fled from Russian imperialism and Soviet communism in Lithuania, I learned to treasure the U.S. and its democracy, where every citizen has a right to vote, the government helps its citizens, and the common good is valued. We are calling on like minded Americans to join in protecting our democracy. -
Jurate Krokys
LAAD Board Secretary
Retired leader in urban, special and global education.
As a kid growing up, I was blessed with parents who taught me to value democracy because they had lost theirs. As refugees from Soviet-occupied Lithuania, they became proud U.S. citizens and always exercised the privilege to vote. I am committed to LAAD because it provides me with a framework within which I can work to defend our fragile democracy. -
Juras Palukaitis
Project Manager.
Democracy is under attack in the U.S. and globally. Everyone must do their part, big or small, to protect it.

John Juozevicius
Clinical Professor of Medicine
University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public HealthI fear for U.S. democracy and democracy around the world. The rise of authoritarianism in the U.S. with Trump, as well as in Hungary and Poland, is chilling. It's bad enough we have China and Russia with authoritarian regimes--if democracies fall, we are all screwed.

Former Head, Lithuanian-American Community of Washington , DC.
The collapse of the Soviet Union brought us a sense that democracy had finally prevailed in the world. Thirty years later, democracy hangs by a thread in the United States, and history is repeating itself in the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine. -

Proud to join the Board of LAAD but anxious because, in the United States and Europe, democracy is under serious threat.
Presently not only the MAGA Republican fringe but also the rest of the Republicans in the House and Senate are agitating to block U.S. aid to Ukraine.
Insurrectionist Trump has declared his plans to be a dictator if elected.
We must not turn our backs on saving democracy in the U.S. and abroad.

Adding my two cents to support democracy in the U.S. any way possible. If we don't act, who will? It doesn't matter the steps and whether the contributions are big or small. Small can make the difference. The last presidential election was won by only 43,000 votes out of millions. Come join us!!!
